What is a webquest?
"An inquiry-oriented activity in which most or all the information used by learners is drawn from the Web. Webquests are designed to use learners' time well, to focus on using information rather than on looking for it, and to support learner's thinking at the levels of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation"

-Bernie Dodge

Why use webquest in the classroom?
• Emphasizes inquiry-based learning (students find their own answers)
• Features authentic, real-world assessment
• Integrates technology and 21st century learning skills
• Moves a student from knowledge/comprehension to analysis/synthesis/evaluation
• Takes regurgitation and "simple fact cut-n-paste" out of the research process
• Moves the teacher from "sage-on-stage" to "guide-by-side"

What parts are in a webquest?
Introduction - a short narrative that sets the stage for what the students are to do (introduces the problem)
Task - what the end result will be for the students (how they will fix the problem). Check out the taxonomy of tasks.
Process - the steps needed to complete the task. The more specific, the better.
Resources - a list of web resources they will use to complete the task. By choosing the resources themselves, the teacher gets to control the content, so a student spends less time searching aimlessly for content and more time analyzing what to do with the content.
Evaluation - a rubric aligned with the task.
Conclusion - an extension of the task. Now that we've completed this task, why does that matter for the world? for our own growth? for what we'll talk about next?
Teacher Resources (optional) - if you are looking to share your idea with other teachers.
